The 58th Design Week in 2019 attracted over 38 visitors. Taxis, hotels, and restaurants are full. The general public can also enjoy walking around and looking at the exhibits. After the preview day, which is only open to interested parties and the press, it is a once-a-year city-wide event open to all Milan residents and design watchers from around the world.

On the other hand, the general public is not allowed to set foot in the Milano Collection venue, a festival of fashion. This is because admission is restricted depending on the presence or absence of an invitation. As global fashion brands have come to participate in Milan Design Week, which is open to everyone, not just journalists and celebrities, the relationship between the general public and fashion brands is also uniquely open at this time. Become a unique being.

Hermès Guests get lost in a maze-like space made of masonry, and the Hermès home features objects, home textiles, furniture, interior fabrics, lighting, and other items that are as high quality as crafts, with the theme of materials. During Milan Design Week, general consumers can enter the Hermès exhibition hall as long as they line up. The same goes for Louis Vuitton. Even in the luxury clothing stores on Via Montenapoleone, the windows of Etro, Gucci, and Loewe are decorated with design week-inspired presentations. Walking around and looking at them can be a lot of fun.

Issey Miyake, which is in its third year since opening its flagship store on Via Bagtta, has been collaborating with designers and artists on projects every year during Milano Salone. This year, we have selected Dutch designer Joran van der Weel. The aim was to make us aware of the presence of water by installing installations made of transparent glass tubes with water moving inside them in several locations within the store.

Milano Salone is a dream-like multi-day event for ordinary consumers, where fashion and design come together, the whole city opens up to them, and they can even participate in parties that last until late at night.

Prada released a bag in collaboration with three internationally renowned female architects and designers at its Milan collection last September. Kazuyo Sejima's bag graced the window display of Prada's main store in the Galleria during Design Week. Sejima is currently constructing a new building for Bocconi University in Milan. The presence of these two leading Japanese architects also shows that the role of Japanese creators in Milan is becoming firmly established. In the second part, we will introduce Japanese brands, Japanese designers, and creators who exhibited at Milan Design Week 3.
