The karakami of the “Kokin Waka Shujo” created by master craftsmanship creates an elegant space.

When building Hotel Okura's main building in the 1960s, the five architects, including Yoshiro Taniguchi, who were involved in the design, aimed to create a hotel that could embody the beauty of Japan. Founder Kishichiro Okura established a design committee at the idea of the company, which shows that he has an extraordinary passion for design. A design committee consisting of painters and sculptors has been formed to handle interior design, furniture, tableware, menus, matches, etc.

What is most impressive is its elegant shape, which is inspired by Japanese poetry. One is a Japanese paper related to the national treasure ``Thirty-Seven Chapters of Thirty-six People's Collection'' stored at Nishi Honganji Temple in Kyoto, which is a collection of waka poems by 36 famous poets from the same family, including Hitomaro Kakimoto and Tsurayuki Ki. It was created based on the composition, patterns, techniques, and materials of the collection's ryoshi. It has long adorned the large walls of the large banquet hall "Heian no Ma" in the Hotel Okura Tokyo main building.

Ryoshi is rich in variety and allows you to enjoy a variety of tastes, such as expressions that are inherited from precious karakami and dyed paper, ``hare-tsugi'' where the outlines are joined in a waving manner, and ``over-seamed'' where colored paper is gradually shifted. Jiro Agata, an artist known for researching the paper and design used in works such as The Tale of Genji Emaki, and for creating copies of the emaki, was involved in the production of the wallpaper. This wallpaper, which has become a symbol of Okura, will now be available for viewing in the lobby of Okura's Heritage Wing.

In addition, the large-scale wall decorations based on the scroll book ``Kokin Waka Shujo'', one of the three national treasures in the Okura Shukokan collection, will also be inherited at The Okura Tokyo. A total of 11 types of 30 patterns with elegant karakami motifs written by Fujiwara Sadazane, who wrote the foreword by Tsurayuki Ki, will be displayed on the left and right walls of Okura Prestige Tower's large banquet hall, ``Heian no Ma''.

Beautiful handmade washi paper in delicate traditional Japanese colors such as white, light peach, light green, and pale yellow is produced in Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture. Auspicious patterns such as Hosouge, Gassho, cranes, lions, peacocks and peonies, and tortoise shells are expressed using the silkscreen technique. The process involved creating one wall by pasting together 20 pieces of patterns, each 10 times the size of the original, and it took XNUMX years and XNUMX months to create, starting with the study of the original design. It is said that he was healed. A Japanese paper wall with an elegance that could only be completed with the skills of modern craftsmen. It will make the celebration even more vivid.

``Thirty-Six Houses of Thirty-seven Chapters'' will be revived in the 5th floor lobby of the Okura Heritage Wing, and ``Kokin Waka Shujo'' will be revived in the ``Heian Room'' on the XNUMXst floor of the Okura Prestige Tower.
