What is the traditional Japanese color "Suzumecha"?
Sparrow tea is a deep brown with a slight reddish tint. It is derived from the color of sparrows, and there are two interpretations of the color: one that is close to the reddish brown of their heads (sparrow head color), and the other that is close to the grayish brown of their feathers. There are subtle differences depending on which part of the body is used as the reference color, but both represent the calm hue of a sparrow. The color name also comes from the fact that brown colors were popular during the Edo period, and what was called "sparrow color" became widely known as "sparrow tea." There is no strict distinction, and it is thought that the name changed over time. The skin of the sweet plum tree and sappanwood are used for dyeing, resulting in a warm, deep color.
Suzumecha = Sparrow Tea
Sparrows do not have territories and move in groups, so they are characterized by blending into people's living spaces. In Japan, they are also considered to be auspicious birds, and are sometimes seen as symbols of "prosperous business" and "safety in the home." "Suzumecha" is pronounced "suzumecha."
