What is the traditional Japanese color "Urayanagi"?
A very pale yellow-green color, like the underside of a willow leaf, is a traditional color called Urayanagi. Willow and lotus leaves were given this name because the front side is dark green, while the back side appears whitish. In "Tekagami Moyo Setsuyo," it is written that "Urayanagi, formerly known as Aoi Aoi or Ha Kojimi Gohou no Iro," which shows that it was used as the color of the robes worn daily by the Emperor. The dyeing method used was to layer a light indigo with a dark yellow to create a bright yellow-green. A color born from a subtle combination, it is one of Japan's traditional colors with a graceful feel.
