This family name comes from Monchusho, an administrative agency of the Kamakura Shogunate.
The Monjusho functioned like a modern court and handled lawsuits. Since its first butler, Yasunobu Miyoshi, the position was passed down from generation to generation, and his descendants are said to have inherited the title of the butler as their surname.
During the Muromachi period, the Monjusho clan moved down to Chikugo Province, which is now the southern part of Fukuoka Prefecture, and grew into a powerful local lord during the Sengoku period. During the Edo period, they served as samurai of the Yanagawa domain, and at the end of the Edo period, they also served as a middle elder.
