What is the traditional Japanese color "Hibiscus tea"?
The traditional color of Hiwa tea is a dull yellow with a greenish tinge like the feathers of a nightingale. It is darker than Ominae-shiro, a color known to be similar, and brighter and more yellowish than Uguisu-cha. In the Edo period color guidebook "Tewazamoyosetsuyo," it is also written as "Minaheshi" or "Uguisu-cha" as an old name. Nightingales are often thought of as having a pale greenish brown color called "uguisu-iro," but their actual feather color is closer to a dull brown, and they live hidden in thickets such as bamboo grass, so they are rarely seen.
Hiwacha = Hiwacha
Books from the Edo period record that Hiwacha was popular as a dye for kosode (short sleeves). It was a subdued yet elegant color that was popular among the people of the time. "Hiwacha" is pronounced "Hiwacha".
