What is the traditional Japanese color "Platinum"?
A shiny silver-white color with a grayish-white tinge, the traditional color for "platinum" is white gold. Famous for its flexibility and strength, platinum remains unchanged even at high temperatures. It is harder than silver and is said to be dissolvable only by aqua regia, a very strong acid. Platinum is mainly produced in the Ural region of Russia, South Africa, Colombia, etc. It began in 1735 when a Spanish naval officer found a white metal similar to silver on the shores of Lake Pinto River in Colombia.
Platinum = Hakkin
One theory about the origin of the word "platinum" is that it is a diminutive of "plata," which means silver in Spanish, to form "platina." On the other hand, it is also said to be derived from "Platina del Pinto" (little silver from the Pinto River). "Platinum" is pronounced "hakkin."
