"Daishojidani" is a name found in Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture. It is pronounced "Daishojidani" and has eight characters. It is said to be one of the longest surnames in existence, as it is the longest of all existing surnames.

 
One theory is that the name originates from the place name Taisho-ji, Imadate-gun, Echizen Province, but the details are not well known. Taisho-ji, Imadate-gun, Echizen Province, was a place name located in the northeastern part of present-day Sabae City. Also, surnames with "valley" in them often refer to a valley, so it is thought that the surname was taken from a place name.
