What is the traditional Japanese color "hanahairo"?
Kahaori is a reddish color, more yellowish than golden yellow. According to the Shozokusho, a book of court etiquette explaining the origins and meanings of words related to the attire worn by imperial and aristocratic families during the Heian period, Kahaori was the color of clothing worn in March. Kahaori, which is derived from the color of rapeseed petals, is created by weaving yellow into the warp and golden yellow into the weft. It is said that this color is achieved by making the golden yellow color more prominent.
