"Noro" is a surname that is often found in Chiba Prefecture, and is particularly concentrated in Togane City and Oami Shirasato City, Chiba Prefecture.
There are various origins, but one theory is that Noro is the name of a plant belonging to the genus Dioscorea, in the family Dioscorea, in the order Liliformes, and because it had many thin, whisker-like roots, it was thought to look like an old man's beard. It seems that the kanji for ``noro'' was derived from the image of the plant, ``an old man with a beard in a field.''
