Earthenware color is thin like earthenware and has a warm reddish-yellow hue. Unglazed pottery that is offered before the shrine is called kawarake, and it is known as a traditional color created in the Edo period. It is said that earthenware used as everyday vessels in the imperial court during the Heian period was used for a variety of purposes, including oil trays for paper lanterns and earthenware throwing for target games.

Yoshitaka Miura, a military commander in the early Sengoku period, left behind a death poem that said, ``The one who attacks and the one who is defeated are like earthenware.What remains is the clay that was once broken.''When you die, you simply return to the clay. ``Dokiiro'' is pronounced as Kawarakeiro.
