NIPPONIA is an initiative to renovate old folk houses that remain scattered throughout the country into a complex accommodation facility by renovating them into guest rooms, restaurants, etc. while respecting their historic nature. NIPPONIA Izumo Taisha Monzenmachi, a renovated former clinic, has recently opened in Taishamachi, Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture.

The building is based on the former Oku Hospital, which opened in the Taisho era and was a popular clinic in the town. In addition to the Japanese-style rooms, earthen floors, and warm wood space with classic furniture, there is also a French restaurant, ``Cuisine OKU,'' within the facility. It has been reborn as a gourmet inn.

The guest rooms include ``Takahama,'' which has a bedroom overlooking a private courtyard and a living room where sunlight streams in through Izumo lattice windows, ``Chidori,'' which has a modern classic atmosphere from the Taisho era, and ``Chidori,'' which is a renovated storehouse. There are six rooms, each with a different taste, such as "Akizuki".
