The "Agency for Cultural Affairs/Prefectural Office Area Street Corner Museum" event will be held from October 10th (Sat) to November 19th (Sun), where you can enjoy Kyoto's culture and art, including special openings of Kyoto's historical buildings and gardens, exhibitions of traditional crafts and contemporary art, and tours of workshops.
This event, which will be held at the same time as the Kyoto Modern Architecture Festival starting on November 11st, is a collaboration between 1 facilities in the area around the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the prefectural office. In addition to public facilities such as the Kyoto Prefectural Office Former Main Building and the Kyoto Prefectural Guest House, the oldest active government building in Japan that still retains its appearance from the time of its construction, participating facilities and stores where you can experience Kyoto's traditional culture will also participate, such as Yamadamatsu Incense Wood, a long-established store that has been in business since the Edo period, Nishijin Textile Hall, which conveys the history and techniques of Nishijin textiles, and Yokoyama Bamboo Materials Store (TAKENOKO), which handles bamboo crafts.
In addition to the above, workshops will be held at five other facilities and stores. At the Nishijin Textile Center, you can make a kaleidoscope using Nishijin-ori fabric, and at Yokoyama Bamboo Shop (TAKENOKO), you can make a shrimp basket. All of these require prior reservations, so for more information, check out the Machikado Museum brochure available on the Kyoto Prefectural Government's official website.
