The Chiso Gallery in Kyoto will be holding an exhibition entitled "A Lineage of Brushes" that will focus on Chiso designers from the early Meiji period to the present day. The exhibition will run from October 10th (Saturday) to December 5nd (Sunday).
Attributed to Imao Keitetsu, "Chrysanthemum and Small Bird" Meiji Period
It is no exaggeration to say that the history of Chiso's craftsmanship has been supported by connections with many Japanese painters and designers. One of these is Imao Keitoshi, a Japanese painter representing Kyoto. He had a deep connection with Chiso and created many sketches for Yuzen and embroidery products from the early Meiji period.
Chiaki Shiba "May Dolls" 1946 (Showa 21)
This exhibition will focus on people whose work continues to this day, like a single brush stroke, including Imao Keitoshi, Umemura Keizan, who studied under Keitoshi and frequented Chiso as an artist, his student Shiba Chiaki, and the designers who worked exclusively for Chiso under Chiaki, and will introduce designs, dyed textiles, and other items.
Why not come to the venue and experience for yourself the aesthetic sense that has been passed down without interruption through the master-disciple relationship?
