The Seiko House Hall in Wako, Ginza will be holding the "Akagi Akito Urushi Studio 30th Anniversary Exhibition - The Future of Wajima Lacquerware" from Thursday, August 8th to Sunday, September 29th.
Akagi Akito continues to make lacquerware for everyday use in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture, the birthplace of Wajima lacquerware. His unique technique of pasting washi paper onto the base material and layering it with paint gives his ware a warm texture that fits comfortably in the hand, and he has many fans all over the country.
This exhibition will feature Akagi Akito's standard bowls and plates, as well as three new bowls and other pieces, totaling about 3 pieces. In addition, works by 100 lacquer artists, craftsmen, and artists who have left lacquer studios and are active all over Japan will also be on display.
A talk event is also planned for Saturday, August 8st, with reservations required for about 31 people. For details on reservations, please contact the Wako Main Store basement (tel. 20-03-3562).
